Who We Are
Launched in 2007 Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) is a non-profit organization working in partnership with the Yonkers Public Schools to increase the number of students who complete a post-secondary program. YPIE works with students from 7th grade through college graduation to provide information, inspiration and tools to launch young people into college or a career path that will result in a fulfilling future.
YPIE has strong working relationships with the school district, higher education institutions and local community partners that enable us to work in the schools, engage parents and the community, and collect data to measure our impact. In just five years, YPIE has been the catalyst for increasing access to, and enrollment in post-secondary programs for the students in this highly challenged school district.
- Among the 26,000 students who attend the Yonkers Public School District, nearly three-fourths of the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
- 15% come from homes where English is not the spoken language.
- The majority of students in the district will be the first in their families to pursue a college degree.
YPIE’s mission is to increase the number of Yonkers Public School students who complete a post-secondary program that prepares them for a successful career. YPIE partners with the Yonkers Public School District, business and philanthropic communities and higher education institutions and relies on detailed data to drive our decisions and programs. We believe that post-secondary success is key to meaningful and lasting improvements in the quality of life for our students and community.
YPIE works in close partnership with the Yonkers Public Schools to provide programs and services that promote a college-going culture. YPIE also enlists the leadership and support of the private sector to insure that the broader community embraces the achievement goals of the district.
YPIE works across the district to deliver middle and high school-based programs designed to improve college and career readiness and increase access to two and four-year colleges and vocational programs.
YPIE reaches out to parents and students in the community to provide information and guidance about college and career pathways and the financial aid available to make their dreams of college a reality.
Data-Driven Programs and Accountability
YPIE serves as a catalyst for improving district-wide data on post-secondary application, enrollment and completion. YPIE’s data-driven efforts directly support the delivery of services to students and enables consistent monitoring of progress district-wide.
With the Support of a diverse and visionary Board of Directors, a small and highly efficient Staff and generous Supporters, YPIE is able to leverage its resources to provide access and opportunity for student and families in this large, urban district.
