Who We Are

Mission Statement

“YPIE’s mission is to increase the number of Yonkers Public School students who complete a post-secondary program that prepares them for a successful career. YPIE partners with the Yonkers Public School District, business and philanthropic communities and higher education institutions and relies on detailed data to drive our decisions and programs. We believe that post-secondary success is key to meaningful and lasting improvements in the quality of life for our students and community.”

Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) was launched in 2007 to help improve the educational outcomes of students in the Yonkers Public Schools (YPS), the fourth largest school district in NY State. Since its inception, YPIE has grown into a robust organization, serving thousands of low-income students each year to support their dreams for college and successful careers. Almost 75% of the students we serve are eligible for free/reduced lunch and most will be the first in their family to attend college.

YPIE has been a catalyst in the middle and high schools by raising student aspirations and providing programs and services that have improved student outcomes and created a college-going culture throughout the district.

We are a data-driven organization that uses online tools and tracking systems to collect data and track student outcomes related to the college process, including post-secondary application, enrollment and persistence.

From eighth grade through college graduation, YPIE offers a portfolio of programs – all geared to increasing awareness, academic readiness, college and career access and college persistence. Our work mostly takes place within the schools, but some programs are offered afterschool and on Saturdays. Having a presence in the schools enables YPIE to serve thousands of students each year and develop relationships with the students and school faculty.

The partnership between YPIE and the YPS is unique among other not-for-profit educational intermediaries and this has received national recognition. As an example, the Yonkers Public Schools was one of thirteen school districts in the US to be awarded the prestigious 2014 national Magna Award by the National Association of School Boards for its successful partnership with YPIE that has improved college-going outcomes for its students. YPIE also collaborates with other community organizations and higher education institutions to achieve greater outcomes for our students.
