On September 11th, YPIE organized a Volunteer Kickoff for 100+ volunteers that work with our students year-round. September 11th is a nationally recognized day of service and remembrance. In the days, weeks, and months after September 11, 2001, our community was strengthened by the kind acts of strangers and a strong sense of unity was felt throughout our country. YPIE volunteers embody the spirit of kindness and unity through their work with our students throughout the year.
Our YPIE Volunteer Kickoff provided volunteers with the necessary next steps to resume their work with their mentees, a look at the school year ahead, and updates on exciting new initiatives. There was great energy and enthusiasm in the room. Coaches left excited for the year ahead and are reaching out to their Scholars to schedule meetings for the new school year.
We had two special guests share their YPIE experiences with Coaches. Ezekiel, the dad of Hazel, a YPIE Scholar in her senior year. He expressed his gratitude for the commitment, guidance, and opportunities that were made available to his daughter. Hazel is in her final year of the YPIE STEM Program and spent the summer conducting her research at Mount Sinai.
Aishe, a YPIE Scholar in her senior year, shared her experience as a YPIE Scholar highlighting her relationship with her Graduation Coach Allison Wohl. Aishe shared that she needed tutoring in math so Allison connected her Scholar with her husband Alex, a mathematician and YPIE Graduation Coach, for tutoring. Aishe is also a YPIE STEM Scholar.
